Music city – Unity

A city transformable in real time according to the sound frequencies and the distance from the player. Made in Unity. The video is a test about how the different frequency bands, applied as scale and lighting transformations, transform the city. In the project shown in the pictures, the transformations are also affected by the choices and the distance of the player. The second video is footage of an application of the “sound deformation” script in VR.

The project itself is an interactive experience set in city streets. The urban environment transforms in real time based on the player’s movements and musical rhythm. The player embodies a street musician whose music alters nearby buildings within a defined radius. The city begins dark and static, like a sleeping organism. As the musician moves and plays, buildings light up and reshape, freezing into their last transformed state once the player walks away.

Throughout the journey, the musician discovers new hidden melodies, each introducing different transformation patterns. The city can take countless forms depending on the player’s path and musical choices. The overall lighting and atmosphere shift as well, turning the city into a responsive, living entity tied to the musician’s actions.
