Frames Beyond – VR cultural immersive experience

Frames Beyond is an immersive virtual reality experience that transports you into the world and time of a portrait. Presented for the first time at the Micro-Folie de Taverny, Athina Syntychaki, Aurélien Duval and Maëlys Jusseaux  designed this educational cultural experience themselves.

The first scene draws on La femme aux gents, La Parisienne (Charles Giron, 1883), and opens onto the 19th century. You begin inside a virtual recreation of the Micro-Folie’s own room, then cross through a frame and a door into a plausible Parisian salon belonging to a woman of high social standing. The objects in this room are interactive, providing the visitor with information about the furniture styles of the time.

A 19th-century stereoscopic viewer acts as the  bridge between eras: an early device for creating a sense of depth from two images which is the ancestor of the headset you’re wearing.
